If you enjoyed Odyssey and would like to continue using your language skills to explore Canada and the people and places that make up this country, you will have a world of opportunities! There are other programs that the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada, the Department of Canadian Heritage, and provincial and territorial ministries and departments of education would be pleased to offer you.
Apply for Explore
Are you registering for postsecondary studies after you complete Odyssey? If you are doing a full-time program at a college or university, you may be eligible for an Explore French-immersion bursary! This bursary covers most expenses, including accommodation, tuition, food, and the cost of most activities. You may even receive academic credit for completion of the program from certain institutions. For more information, please visit Explore.
Get a job after Explore with the Languages at Work program
The Languages at Work program is a component of the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Young Canada Works (YCW), which offers a number of summer job placements for graduating Explore participants at various Explore locations. Such a placement gives you the opportunity to use your second language in a work environment after you have finished your Explore program. Earn a paycheque, build your résumé, and improve your fluency with Languages at Work! For more information, contact YCW at 1-800-267-5173 or email@example.com.
Become an explore monitor/teacher
If you are one of the many former Explore participants who really enjoyed the program and would like to work for Explore helping students practise their French or English language skills, consider contacting one of our many host institutions to inquire about their hiring policies. If your first language is English, you should contact the course directors at the institutions whose program targets the development of English language skills by clicking here. If French is your first language and you want to help participants improve their French, click here.
Apply to be a promotion agent for the Official-Languages Programs
If you are eligible for the Odyssey program and have participated in either the Explore, Odyssey, or Destination Clic programs, you can apply to become a promotion agent! The mandate of promotion agents is to promote the three Official-Languages Programs (Odyssey, Explore, and Destination Clic), with the goal of increasing the number of participants. In cooperation with provincial or territorial coordinators, promotion agents are responsible for planning visits to schools, colleges, universities, other institutions, and fairs in their assigned regions. Promotion agents receive training in promotion and communication techniques, time management, administrative procedures, and related topics.
